The deep cobalt, soft sage, and luminous sky blue beads are made by Krobo artisans in Krobo Odumase, a town in southeastern Ghana that has been home to recycled glass bead-making for generations. The Krobo people transform discarded glass bottles into wearable art through a process that has been passed down for nearly two centuries: glass is washed, ground into fine powder, layered into clay molds with mineral pigments for color, then fired in traditional kilns until the powder fuses into solid, gem-like beads. Each bead is then hand-shaped, polished, and strung. No two are exactly alike.

For the Krobo, beads are more than ornamentation. They mark milestones, carry blessings, and tell the stories of those who wear them. To wear a Krobo bead is to carry a small piece of that lineage.
